Skills That Thrill: Sets To Look For This Weekend

When prepping for the Jesolo Team Final, there are some must-see gymnastics moves. From Simone Biles’s legendary namesake to Gabby Douglas’s ethereal Tkatchev – pac salto combination, some skills are too divine to miss. But as you jot down Saturday’s “To See” list, we want to add some of our picks to your viewing queue.   From the Australian squad, Georgia Godwin brings poise, power, and precision to the competition field. The reigning National Champion has already made a name for herself in the elite ranks, and it is her front layout to double front floor connection that earns her a spot on our list. The lift that Godwin achieves in her second flip demonstrates a mastery of front tumbling that few can achieve.   Watch Godwin’s front layout – double front here.   After just missing out on the 2012 Olympics because of an elbow injury, France native Marine Brevet continues to prove she is still world class. Her soaring double layout floats to the ground giving her floor routine a perfect balance of impressive tumbling and elegant dance.   Watch Brevet’s double layout here.   The youngest member of Canada’s Jesolo team Ana Padurariu delivers a bar routine packed with a punch. Her piked stalder to piked Tkatchev is certainly a sight to see. If Padurariu performs the move at a World Championship or Youth Olympic Game, the skill will be named in her honor.   Watch Padurariu’s Tkatchev here.   Although there are an entire bag of tricks the US team brings to Jesolo, Ragan Smith’s standing pike full on beam stands out as a favorite. The pop of height combined with the control required to complete the 360 degree rotation makes this element an exciting addition to Smith’s routine.   Watch Smith’s complete beam routine here.   Speaking of remarkable rotations, we tip our hats to Jade Chrobok of Canada who makes a double turn on the beam look effortless. Chrobok’s finesse will make your head spin.   Watch Chrobock’s entire beam routine here.   And finally, Kyla Ross’s short but sweet bar set includes a lovely toe-on shaposh – pak salto – toe-on shaposh ½ combination that leaves us begging for more. Ross’s decadent style makes her execution quality the cream of the crop.   Watch Kyla’s full bar routine here.
