In Top Form: The Best Execution on Floor
Rounding out our series on Team USA's best execution scores, floor exercise is today's focus. Top execution can be tough on floor because there are so many places for judges to take deductions. For example, it’s not easy to stick a landing with two feet on a tumbling pass, but judges expect gymnasts to do so. Leaps and jumps need to show full extension, and the gymnast needs to show appropriate rhythm to match her music.

Check out our summary below of Team USA's top execution scores on floor.

5. Maggie Nichols

Nichols has exploded over the past year, and has put up some of the strongest scores for Team USA. She performed spectacularly at the World Championships in 2015 when she won the bronze medal for floor exercise.

Nichols’ top execution score in the past year came at the American Cup in March, when she scored an 8.9. She’s been consistent so far this year, and scored an 8.8 both at Worlds in 2015 and at Classics earlier that year. Check out her beautiful routine from the recent American Cup below:

4. Brenna Dowell

Dowell is known for her work on bars, where she’s capable of throwing big release moves and has one of the highest D-scores in the country. Although she’s not necessarily recognized for her floor routine, she actually showcases some of the best execution on the national team. Dowell’s routine is unique—she throws a lot of front tumbling, including her signature move, the Dowell (front double pike), which was named after her when she performed it at the World Championships in 2015.

Dowell’s top execution score this year was a 8.925, which she scored at the Pacific Rim Championships. Check out her routine from this competition below.

3. Aly Raisman

Raisman is one of the strongest floor workers on the Team USA, and is the reigning Olympic champion on the event. She also has one of the highest D-scores on floor. Raisman is especially good at controlled landings, and her rhythm always matches her music perfectly.

Raisman’s highest execution score this year came recently at the Pacific Rim Championships, where she scored a 9.0. Check out her routine from this competition below:

2. Gabby Douglas

Douglas sits in our No. 2 spot for best execution on floor. Although she may not have the highest difficulty at the moment, Douglas is consistent in this event and can be counted on for a clean routine. Douglas is also great at showing her personality through her dance—she clearly satisfies the artistry requirement.

Douglas’ highest E-score actually came at the beginning of the year at Classics, when she put up a 9.1 - one of the highest E-scores of the competition on floor. She has consistently put up good numbers since then, including an 8.8 at Nationals and an 8.833 at the recent American Cup. Check out her routine from the American Cup below:

1. Simone Biles

For the third time, Biles tops our list for best execution score. Floor is by far Biles’ strongest event—not only for her sky-high difficulty, but for her execution as well. Biles throws crazy-hard skills, and nearly perfects them each time.

Biles’ highest E-score this year was a 9.15, which she scored twice: once at Classics in 2015, and again more recently at the 2016 Pacific Rim Championships. Check out her routine below from that meet:
