The AT&T American Cup will take place this Saturday, March 5th in Newark, New Jersey at the Prudential Center. The American Cup is a FIG World Cup event and has a long history, dating back to 1976. Every year, countries send some of their top all-around competitors on both the women and men’s side to this much anticipated event - one of the first major elite competitions of the year. The fact that this is an Olympic year makes the competition that much more exciting. You can catch the American Cup live on NBC at 1:00pm EST. Below, we've given you the breakdown about what to expect from this year's competition from the women's side.

The competition consists of nine competitors vying for the top three spots. Almost every competitor this year also competed at the 2015 World Championships in Glasgow. The USA's Gabby Douglas will be on to watch, having won the silver medal in the all-around in Glasgow. USA's Maggie Nichols is also expected to place high. Although she did not compete in the all-around finals at Worlds, she did achieve an impressive 59.232 in the team competition after competing on all four.

Also contending for one of the top spots will be Canada's Ellie Black. Black placed 7th in the all-around at Worlds after a fall on beam, but she's capable of scoring much higher. Her beam routine is still one of the most impressive routines in the world and is jam packed with difficult tumbling and dance. Check out her routine below from podium training at Worlds last year:

Additional competitors on the women's side are:

  • Tabea Alt (Germany) - 2015 German Junior National All-Around Champion
  • Carlotta Ferlito (Italy) - Placed 12th in the All-Around at 2015 World Championships
  • Mai Murakami (Japan) - Placed 6th in the All-Around at 2015 World Championships
  • Lorrane Oliveira (Brazil) - Placed 18th in the All-Around at 2015 World Championships
  • Amy Tinkler (Great Britain) - Member of Bronze Medal winning team at 2015 World Championships
  • Tisha Volleman (Netherlands) - Member of 8th-place team at 2015 World Championships
