Recruiting 101: Unofficial Visits

null

Definition of an unofficial visit

Any visit by you and your parents to a college campus paid for by your parents. The only expense you may receive from the college is three admissions to a home athletics contest. You may make as many unofficial visits as you like and may take those visits at any time. The only time you cannot talk with a college coach during an unofficial visit is during a dead period.

Purpose of an unofficial visit:

To discover your best fit for college and can be used to give you an advantage in the recruiting process.

Which schools should you see on your unofficial visits

If you are going to visit campus just to take a look, you can do this without contacting a coach. If you want to involve the coach then you need to be sure it is a realistic school and team for your level of gymnastics. You will know this by watching the teams videos. Are your skills the same skills they do and is your scoring ability similar.

Best way to set up an unofficial visit

  • Call or email the college coach
  • Let them know the dates that work for you to visit
  • Ask if you can meet with them personally
  • Ask if you can watch practice
  • Meet with academic advisors
  • Go to a class
  • Tour campus
