Weekend Gymnastics Guide: Alamo Classic, Bama, Georgia, OU, LSU, Illinois & MORE

The 2012 season is heating up and as you may have noticed, the 2012 Gymnastike Internship program is officially underway! It's a huge weekend for gymnastics coverage as 7 of our interns will be out and about in arenas around the country broadcasting key NCAA match ups.    I will also be highlighting one of the top club meets happening this weekend - the Alamo Classic Event Finals! Below is your complete guide for ways to watch and follow gymnastics this weekend.    SEC Rivalry: #6 Alabama at #16 Auburn Friday, Jan 27 The reigning National Champions will take on their in-state and Southeastern Conference rival Auburn University in seek of their 104th consecutive win over the Tigers. Unfortunate of them, Auburn is on a hot streak, setting season records on three of four events last weekend in front of a record crowd. Watch for powerhouse Ashley Sledge of Alabama, ranked #1 in the nation on vault. Competition will take place in the newly completed Auburn Arena and video coverage will be provided by Ben Smith. - Alabama at Auburn video channel - Live Stats - Live Video     #20 NC State at #5 Oklahoma, Beauty and the Beast  Friday, Jan 27 The Sooners exploded with a 197.450 last weekend to become the first team in the NCAA this season to break the 197-mark on the road. OU’s score of 197.450 is the second-best score in the country for 2012. They'll host a budding NC State team in their 5th annual "Beauty and the Beast" competition at the Lloyd Noble Center. This is a fun event at OU where a women's gymnastics meet is held at the same time and in the same arena as a wrestling duel. Whitney Ewing will provide full coverage of the event.  - NC State at OU video channel - Live stats   Big 10 Rivalry: #14 Illinois at #19 Michigan Friday, Jan 27 It wasn't pretty, but Michigan snuck by with a win last weekend at Minnesota. Their spotty performance saw them slip eight spots in the national rankings to #19, behind this week's opponent and rival who sits at #14. Illinois is a team on the rise, coming off their second trip to the NCAA Championships and they are gunning for the Wolverines, hoping to break a 33-year win streak by Michigan. The Wolverines will have to fill spots on three events after losing standout Natalie Beilstein to injury. Coverage provided by Tori Kane.  - Illinois at Michigan video channel - Watch Illinois pre-meet interviews by Emily Bayci - Live Stats     Closer than you think: #17 LSU at #7 Georgia Saturday, Jan 28 After two weeks on the road, the seventh-ranked Georgia Gym Dogs return home to face No. 17 LSU Saturday at 4 p.m. The Gym Dogs are coming off a 195.975-195.600 win at Auburn last Friday. This will be our first look at freshmen Chelsea Davis and Sarah Persinger, former members of the US National team. As for LSU, the Tigers are much better than their ranking suggests. Their young team finally hit it's stride last week at Arkansas, posting an impressive 196.325. Elizabeth Grimsley will provide coverage of this battle in Athens.  - LSU at Georgia video channel - Live Stats     The weekend's biggest men's meet: #1 Oklahoma, #7 Michigan at #2 Illinois Saturday, Jan 28 A crazy good early season matchup between what Illinois head coach Justin Spring considers to be the best 3 teams in 2012.  With many of these top gymnasts competing at Winter Cup next weekend, the first step in their Olympic journey, it'll be interesting to see how these teams strategize their lineups. Competition takes place at 5 p.m. CST inside Huff Hall with video coverage provided by Emily Bayci.  - OU, Michigan at Illinois video channel     Level 9/10 EVENT FINALS at the Alamo Classic!
