5 Gymnasts To Watch At Elite Canada: Allaire-Bourgie, Chrobok & More

Gymnastics Canada kicks off its 2019 season with Elite Canada, and FloGymnastics will be on-site to live stream the meet. With more than 100 gymnasts competing in Quebec, the competition will be stacked with talent, but there are more athletes to watch than just the seniors or two-time Olympian Ellie Black

1. Zoe Allaire-Bourgie

Allaire-Bourgie is one of Canada's top junior gymnasts, winning gold on beam at last year's Junior Pan American Championships. She also won silver in the all-around and bronze on bars, on top of helping Team Canada win team silver.

2018 was a great year for her overall. She's the reigning junior Canadian champion in the all-around, on beam and on bars. She earned five medals at the Pacific Rim Championships, including another beam gold. She won all-around and beam at the International Gymnix Junior Cup and also won beam at last year's Elite Canada meet. Although she's still a junior, she's already had a great international career and looks to be a contender for Tokyo next year, so she's competing with the seniors.

2. Jade Chrobok

Chrobok is coming off a good 2018 season, including three international assignments. At the Birmingham World Cup last year, she came in fourth in the all-around, marking her first World Cup appearance. She helped Team Canada bring home gold at the Commonwealth Games and did fairly well at the 2018 Senior Pan American Championships, where she advanced to beam and all-around finals and helped Canada finished fourth in team finals.

3. Isabela Onyshko

A veteran to Gymnastics Canada, Onyshko has been a staple on the Canadian National Team for years. Although she wasn't named to the Canadian Worlds team last year, she had nothing short of a stellar 2018 season.

She won International Gymnix last year, was second on bars and made beam finals. She was part of the gold-medal-winning Commonwealth Games squad and made bars, beam and all-around finals there. At last year's Canadian Championships, she was the all-around and beam silver medalist in addition to the bronze floor medalist. She ended her 2018 competitive season with a trip to the Portugal World Challenge Cup where she was second on floor and third on beam.

Whether competing as an all-around gymnast or a specialist, Onyshko has proven herself to always be one to watch when it comes to Canadian gymnastics.

4. Ana Padurariu

Padurariu is coming off a breakout year after winning silver on beam in her first year as a senior at World Championships. In addition to her beam silver, she helped Canada finish a fantastic fourth place at Worlds in Qatar. At the 2018 Senior Pan American Championships, she also helped Team Canada to a fourth-place finish on top of fourth on beam herself. At last year's Canadian Championships, she was the silver bars medalist and the silver all-around medalist at last year's Elite Canada meet.

Entering her second year as a senior, Padurariu has become one of Canada's rising stars with the ability to put together a solid all-around performance and excel in event finals.

5. Mia St-Pierre

St-Pierre is in her first year as a senior and did well in her last season as a junior last year, competing at two international meets. She made vault finals at the 2018 City of Jesolo Trophy and earned two medals at the Pan American Championships: team silver and floor bronze, in addition to making the vault final. 2018 was just her first year on the Canadian National Team, but she fared well, possibly giving her the confidence to do well in her senior debut.
