'The Whittenburg', a new element on Still Rings, has officially been recognized by the FIG Men's Technical Committee to be added to the Code of Points on Friday.
The originator Donnell Whittenburg (USA), who is the 2015 and 2016 US national champion on Still Rings, first performed the new element, a triple salto backward piked, in the apparatus finals of the World Challenge Cup in Koper (SLO) on May 13, 2017.
It is a way of achieving immortality in Gymnastics: Men's Artistic gymnasts may receive the name for a new element performed in an official FIG competition upon successful completion without a large deduction error assuring that their names will live on in the sport, years after having taken their final bows on the international stage.
Apparatus: Still Rings
Element description: Triple salto backward piked
Element value: H
Performed at: 2017 Koper World Challenge Cup
Note: This new element will be confirmed in the minutes of the June 2017 MTC meeting and also in their upcoming newsletter.
