The FIG Executive Committee held its second meeting of the year in Baku (AZE) May 4-5. Please find below the summary of the main information and decisions:
- The EC discussed all proposals to be presented to the Council. The decisions are listed in the Official news from the Council.
- The EC unanimously approved the following Nationality changes:
- Oriana Vinas Perez, RG Gymnast, VEN to COL
- Andrea Vinas Perez, RG Gymnast, VEN to COL
- Anna-Marie Ondaatje, RG Gymnast, CAN to SRI
- Hannah Walter, RG Gymnast, USA to CAN
- The EC made a few changes to the World Cup and World Challenge Cup Rules.
- The EC reviewed the Olympic Qualification System and approved various rewordings and clarifications.
- The EC unanimously ratified the decision taken by the Presidential Commission to organize an FIG Obstacle Course Cup in Montpellier (FRA) on 28 May 2017 featuring two events each for men and women:
- Obstacle Course Sprint
- Obstacle Course Freestyle
- The EC unanimously decided on a Road Map/Decision-making process for the development of Parkour-inspired Obstacle Course Competitions as part of a new FIG discipline
- The EC unanimously decided to award Ms. Birgit Guhr (GER) an FIG Honorary Judges' Diploma.
- The EC unanimously nominated Mr. Jorge Fillon (ARG) as a member of the FIG Aerobic Gymnastics Technical Committee. This nomination was necessary due to the refusal of the German Gymnastics Federation (DTB) to accept the nomination of Ms. Barbara Stengl.
- The EC unanimously nominated Mr. Rached Gharbi (TUN) as a member of the FIG Disciplinary Commission.
- The EC unanimously decided to hold the 24 October 2017 Presidential Commission meeting in Yaounde (CMR) and the 26-27 October 2017 Executive Committee meeting in Cotonou (BEN).
Additionally, the 17th FIG Council meeting was held in Baku May 6-7 just following the the Executive Committee meeting.
Here is a summary of the main decisions taken unanimously by the Council:
- Approval of the Accounts and Financial Report for the year 2016.
- Approval of the Budget for the year 2017.
- Approval of all changes to the Technical Regulations and Appendix A, Olympic Qualification System for Artistic Gymnastics as well as Appendix D, Code of Discipline.
- Confirmation of the Executive Committee's decision to develop Parkour-inspired Obstacle Course competitions as part of a new FIG discipline. Confirmation of the road map (Decision-making process) leading to a World Cup Series in 2018 and 2019 and a first FIG World Championships in 2020. The Council also confirmed the development of FIG activities with Peace and Sport, the IOC and the UN in refugee camps and IOC education centers in Africa and Haiti.
- Provisional acceptance of the Gymnastics Federation of Madagascar (MAD) as an affiliated member. The definitive acceptance must be ratified by the Congress in 2018. Likewise, the Council has provisionally accepted the change of membership of Burkina Faso (BUR) from associate member to affiliated member.
- Exclusion of the Gymnastics Federation of Tajikistan (TJK) for financial reasons according to Art. 8.4 of the FIG Statutes.
- The Council has empowered the FIG Executive Committee to assign the 2018 Council and the 2021 World Championships.
- The Council took notice that the following member federations are still suspended:
- Central African Republic (CAF)
- Kuwait (KUW)
- Macedonia (MKD)
- Mauritius (MRI)
- Zambia (ZAM)
- The Council has elected the following four persons to serve on the Disciplinary Commission:
- Maximilien Lehnen (LUX) - 32 votes
- Victor Berezov (RUS) - 31 votes
- Paul Engelmann (SUI) - 30 votes
- Boris Boguslavskyy (UKR) - 30 votes
