Stacked Field Headed to Hartford for Men’s P&G Championships
The 2016 P&G Men’s Gymnastics Championships will take place today, June 3rd and Sunday, June 5th in Hartford. The competition is a crucial one on the road to Rio, and performances here will inform which gymnasts will go on to compete at the Olympic Trials in St. Louis later this month.

Sam Mikulak is a favorite going into the competition, having won three consecutive national titles 2013-2015. He has struggled a bit since coming back from an Achilles injury he sustained last year, and he placed third in the all-around at the recent Pacific Rim Championships. One of his best performances from that competition came on vault, historically one of Mikulak’s better events. Check out his vault (and stuck landing) below:

Donnell Whittenburg
will be one to watch as well, having finished second in the all-around at the Pacific Rim Championships. Whittenburg has performed well over the past year, also having won the bronze medal on vault at the 2015 World Championships. One of his best events is still rings - he scored a huge 15.925 at the Pacific Rim Championships in event finals. Check out his routine below:

John Orozco
is another gymnast who has battled injuries lately, having torn his Achilles in June of last year. He proved he’s still in the hunt with a strong performance at Pac Rims, where he won the gold on high bar during event finals with a 15.4. Orozco also placed second on pommel horse at the Olympic test event in April, scoring a 15.066. Check out his high bar routine below from Pac Rims:

The star on the pommel horse is Alex Naddour, a four-time national champion on the event. Naddour was a member of the 2015 Worlds team and competed recently at Pac Rims, winning the gold in event finals with a 15.65. Check out his routine below:

Jake Dalton
, yet another gymnast plagued by injury last year, will return to P&Gs today. Dalton took the gold on floor exercise at Pac Rims, scoring an impressive 15.625, just a tenth ahead of teammate Eddie Penev. Dalton struggled on floor at the Olympic test event, but he performed well on rings and vault. Check out his Pac Rims floor routine below:

And we can’t forget about Danell Leyva, 2012 Olympic bronze medalist in the all-around. Leyva had an impressive performance at World Championships last year, winning the silver medal on high bar and finishing 6th on parallel bars. Leyva will be hoping to maintain his national title on parallel bars this year, which has always been one of his best events, in addition to being a top scorer on high bar.
