Emma Malabuyo Named To Final USA Gymnix Team

Laurie Hernandez will make her triumphant return to competition at the Winter Cup Challenge (Feb. 25-28, 2021) in Indianapolis after an almost five-year hiatus. 

The field for the 2021 Nastia Liukin Cup is beginning to take shape following the first qualifier in the 12-event series. Two junior and two senior gymnasts who competed at the Atlanta Crown Invitational in Duluth, Ga., last weekend earned berths for the February 26 final in Indianapolis.

Just three months into 2020 and the world seemed to be shutting down. Schools closed, and classes were moved online. Gyms had to temporarily close. Competitions and meets were canceled. The gymnastics season was suddenly over for club and NCAA. Everyone’s lives were suddenly changing. There were new adjustments to be made all around.

When Ellie Black landed her final tumbling pass during last March’s American Cup, her feet were firmly planted on the mat, but in many ways, she was flying—and flying high. 

MyKayla Skinner is hospitalized with pneumonia after suffering some lingering effects of COVID-19. Skinner posted the news on her Instagram story. The two-time World Champion and NCAA Champion is competing for a spot on the 2021 US Olympic Women's Artistic Gymnastics team.

Her story of landing the senior captain role is relatively unknown but I was lucky enough to catch up with Annie on her time in college gymnastics, transferring, the University of Michigan, being a leader, and her monumental comeback.

INDIANAPOLIS, December 21, 2020 — The 2021 USA Gymnastics for All National Championships and GymFest is slated for June 16-19 at the Westin Kierland Resort and Spa in Scottsdale, Ariz. Gymnastics for All, also known as group gymnastics, includes competitive and non-competitive opportunities in addition to HUGS, a program for athletes with special needs. The four-day GfA event showcases nearly 500 athletes participating in Power TeamGym, Acrobatics and Tumbling, GymFest, and the Gym for Life Challenge.

INDIANAPOLIS, December 17, 2020 – USA Gymnastics today announced the 2021 Winter Cup will be held February 26-28 at the Indiana Convention Center in Indianapolis and will feature an expanded field that will include both men’s and women’s junior and senior artistic gymnasts.
