Junior elite competitors Laurie Hernandez and Jazmyn Foberg competed yesterday in the Junior Japan International, posting another strong performance for Team USA, and finishing first and second in the all-around. Laurie took top honors with a 58.75, exactly matching her average all-around score from P&G Championships in August. Furthermore, she earned the top qualifying scores on both beam and floor, and will compete in all four event finals. Jazzy finished the day with a 55.95, three tenths ahead of third place finisher Elena Eremina of Russia.

Because Laurie and Jazzy are still junior competitors, but will be Rio eligible and contending for a spot on the Olympic team in 2016, it is crucial for them to gain international experience. Unlike most vying for a place on the team, they will not have the opportunity make the World Championship team and compete in Glasgow in October. For the U.S., the World Championships preceding the Olympic year is historically an important one when it comes to who will make the cut for the Olympic team, so these juniors need to prove themselves through other international assignments such as this one.
The following are the full results from Day 1 of competition via the Japan Junior Gymnastic Club Federation. Event finals are still to come.
