Simone Biles
won gold today at the 2015 AT&T American Cup. Biles won with a 62.299, over four points ahead of second place Mykayla Skinner who won silver with a 57.832. Italy’s Erika Fasana took third with a 56.633.

On the men’s side, Ukraine’s Oleg Verniaiev took the title with a 90.597. Japan’s Ryohei Kato was second in the men’s field with a 90.098 and USA’s Donnell Whittenburg was third with a 89.932. USA’s Sam Mikulak just missed out on a medal, placing fourth with a 88.598.

Biles took a big lead from the start after earning a 16.033 for her incredible Amanar that was sky-high and nearly stuck. She moved on to bars where she scored a 15.2 for a clean routine with a new piked Tkatchev to Pak combination. She was beautiful on beam but had a wobble and missed connection and her disappointment in her routine showed. However, she put it behind her and moved to floor where she had an amazing performance with her signature massive tumbling and she scoreed a 16.0 to secure the win.

Skinner's strongest events are vault and floor and today was no exception. She watered down her vault and only performed a Yuchenko double full but it still earned her a 15.1 only second to Biles. She performed solid bars and beam routines but was third heading into the final rotation. She made up for it on floor with a 14.933 for a solid set to secure her silver medal.

Verniaiev had solid performances throughout the competition to earn the gold. His specialty is parallel bars and today he earned an impressive 15.9 for his set, the highest men's score of the entire competition. Kato displayed his beautiful form and technique on every event, putting up consistently solid scores to earn the silver medal.

Whittenburg had a strong competition and earned the high on floor with a 15.4 as well as rings with a 15.5. His 13.966 on pommel horse hurt his all-around score but he was still able to come away with the bronze.

Mikulak had a rough start to his competition, falling on his first two events, However, in typical Mikulak fashion, he came back from those falls to finish strong including a huge high bar routine for a 15.466 to end his competition.
