#16 Oregon State Breaks 197 & Upsets #12 Stanford!

In a rare Monday night meet, the No. 16 Oregon State gymnastics team tallied season-highs on all four events and Chelsea Tang scored 39.350 in the all-around en route to a 197.100-195.750 upset of No. 12 Stanford.

“I’m really proud of our athletes,” Oregon State head coach Tanya Chaplin said. “We have worked through a lot of different things. We had some stumbles when we went to UCLA, which made us take a look at where we were at and what we needed to do. The athletes and staff have worked hard at trying to have a different energy and focus as we go on and I’m really happy to see the progress they’re making.”

The Beavers topped the 49-point mark on all four events and exceeded 197.000 for the first time in 2014.

OSU vaulted to an early lead scoring 49.075 in the first rotation while Stanford struggled with two missed routines on the bars to score 48.500 giving the Beavers a comfortable lead from the outset.

The bars lineup held course scoring 49.275 as a team behind season-high scores of 9.925 by Brittany Harris and Erika Aufiero.

The score stood with 98.350-97.775 at the end of the second rotation, but the Beavers pushed the lead further with a fantastic beam set scoring 49.275. Tang established a career-high 9.925 on beam.

With the meet well in hand heading for the home stretch with a 147.625-146.550, Oregon State finished with a flourish scoring 49.475 in the final rotation. Five Beavers set or tied career-bests with Tang, Gardiner and Nicole Turner posting scores of 9.875, McMillan tallying a 9.90 and Blalock turning in a 9.95.
