Jade Barbosa of Brazil will likely miss the 2013 World Championships because of a ruptured ligament in her foot sustained during training last week. Barbosa who trains in Curitiba will return to Rio for the surgery and to be closer to her family. Despite the injury, Barbosa states that she will continue progressing with her gymnastics career saying the injury stands as a small bump in the road, and she has endured worse.

In 2012, Barbosa missed the London Olympics after a successful 2008 Games because conflicting sponsorship contracts made Barbosa refuse to wear the Barzilian Olympic leotard. Barbosa stands as one of Brazil's top gymnast in recent history. Earlier this year, Barbosa took home the Vault Title at the Anadia Cup.
