Elizabeth Price Withdraws from American Cup

Elizabeth Price has withdrawn from the 2013 American Cup due to hip injury.

Price was selected to represent Team USA along with Olympic Champion Kyla Ross at the 2013 American Cup after a dream season, finishing a surprising 4th all around at the 2012 Olympic Trials and being named alternate to the gold medal winning U.S. Olympic Team. Price concluded her 2012 season with dominating victories in December's Stuttgart and Glasgow World Cups.

Price stated she could have pushed through the injury, a strain to her hip muscle, but decided to let it rest and heal. This is a wise decision with the U.S. and World Championships later in the year. This will be the first year Price is age-eligible for the World Team.

With Price out, the USA will name a replacement gymnast to join Ross on the international stage after a February training camp.

A front runner for the second position will likely be 2012 USA Junior National Champion Lexie Priessman of Cincinnati Gymnastics Academy who is now eligible for senior level competition.

There will also be one more international gymnast named to the field to replace Romania's Larisa Iordache who previously withdrew from the competition.

Since the original lineups were released, Canada's Victoria Moors and Japan's Koko Tsurumi have been added to the women's roster while Japan's Hiroki Ishikawa has been added to the men's field.

Competition will take place at 11:30 a.m. ET on March 2 at the DCU Center in Worcester, Massachusetts and Gymnastike will be on-site for coverage.
