Canadian Phenom Shallon Olsen Wins Top Gym

Canadian junior phenom Shallon Olsen won the all around and vault titles at the 16th Top Gym Tournament November 24th and 25th in Charleroi, Belgium.

Year over year, the Top Gym meet has drawn some of the best junior elite gymnasts in the world and with this victory, Olsen follows in the footsteps of Champions like Shawn Johnson, Jordyn Wieber, and Larisa Iordache.

Unlike past years, the U.S. did not send any representatives to this competition.

Olsen's Canadian teammate and fellow 12-year-old Rose Kalam Woo finished in second place with Georgina Hockenhull of Great Britain in bronze.

Olsen made a name for herself by easily competing a double twisting yurchenko at age ten (video) and is still confidently competing the difficult vault. She trains under Vladimir Lashin and Svetlana Lashina at Omega Gymnastics in British Columbia and is quickly emerging as the future of Canadian Gymnastics.

Woo won the individual title on uneven bars with the below routine. She trains at Gymnix in Montreal.

Hockenhull won balance beam, and Emma Larsson of Sweden was the surprise gold medalist on floor exercise after finishing 8th in the all around.
