More than half the team is comprised of Olympic veterans -- Mitchell, Bonora, and Brennan were all members of Australia's 2008 team in Beijing.
Mitchell also is Australia's first-ever women's world champion, winning silver medals on beam and floor in 2009.

Head coach Peggy Liddick, who helped coach Shannon Miller at Dynamo in Oklahoma in the 90s, said:  "We've selected a mixed team of three dual Olympians and two who will be new to the Olympic competiton . . . .  The three dual Olympians will bring maturity and knowledge to the team, giving us a strong advantage heading to London."

Notable names left off the team were Chloe Sims, injury ridden Georgia Simpson and Nikki Chung, and 2008 Olympians Dasha Joura and Olivia Vivian who made a comeback to elite after a successful career at Oregon State University.

Australia hopes to win its first Olympic gymnastics medal in London.

The country previously named Josh Jefferis as its male gymnast for London.
