Two days ago we reported with astonishment that 2010 World Champion Aliya Mustafina planned to return to competition on bars and beam just seven months following her ACL tear. She had full intentions of competing in Stuttgart today, but withdrew at the last minute after experiencing knee pain, according to the competition's live ticker.
After that, all eyes were on the Australian women who dominated the qualification round highlighted by 15.25 on beam for Lauren Mitchell and a 14.40 on bars for Larissa Miller.
Competition will continue this weekend with a 4-team Team Final competition featuring Australia, Germany, Russia, and the Netherlands.
On the men's side, Russia led the qualification round, just half a tenth ahead of the British men. They will be joined by Germany and Switzerland in the Team Finals.
