I just saw this story on gymnasticscoaching.com, and am excited to share it here. Former Oregon State gymnast Laura-Ann Chong has decided to make a comeback to elite gymnastics in hopes of representing Canada in the 2012 Olympic Games. 

 

Canada is one of the bubble teams for 2012. They have potential to qualify as a team to London, but it's definitely not a given. Their chances continue to look better as 2-time Canadian Champion Kristina Vaculik has decided to defer her sophomore year at Stanford in order to return home to Gemini Gymnastics to train for the 2011 World Championships and 2012 Olympics.

 

Back to Chong - she writes on her website, "After a year off of gymnastics, I have recently decided to go back in training and put in a bid for the 2011/2012 Canadian National Team in hopes of representing Canada in London during the 2012 Olympic Games! After nearly making the team and being named an alternate for the 2004 Olympic Team, I am still hungry for the ultimate dream." 

Chong was an All-American at Oregon State. Her specialties were bars and beam though she made a few appearances in the all around. In 2010, she was crowned Pac 10 Champion on beam and NCAA Regional Champion on uneven bars.

As a club gymnast, she was a member of the Canadian National team and trained at Phoenix Gymnastics under coaches David Kenwright and Kyna Fletcher. She competed at numerous international competitions for Canada and was an alternate for the 2004 Canadian Olympic team.
