The 2024 IIHF World Men’s Under-18 Championship is one of the most-scouted events on the NHL Draft calendar. With 10 teams featuring many of the top U18 players in the world, it’s a great chance to get a last impression of prospects, especially those from Europe.

FloHockey’s senior content creator and prospect analyst Chris Peters will be on the scene to provide coverage and analysis of the entire event, taking you inside the action while learning more from the NHL scouts and executives ahead of the 2024 NHL Draft.

Team USA will be looking to defend its World U18 Gold Medal after beating Sweden in overtime during last year's tournament off of a goal by Washington Capitals first-round pick Ryan Leonard. The Americans will be returning three players from that roster including top 2025 NHL Draft prospect James Hagens and potential 2024 first-rounders Cole Eiserman and Cole Hutson.

Where Is The 2024 IIHF Men's World Under-18 Championship?

The 2024 IIHF Men's World Under-18 Championship will be played in Finland. Games will be held at the Metro Arena in Espoo, and the Trio Arena in Vantaa.

How Do I Watch The IIHF World Under-18 Championship in the U.S.?

NHL Network will carry Team USA's games and select others live on television in the United States. Streaming information is not yet available.

How Do I Watch The IIHF World Under-18 Championship in Canada?

TSN is expected to broadcast every game from the 2024 IIHF Men's World U18 Championship with many games appearing on one of TSN's family of networks. The tournament will also be streamed in Canada on TSN+.

What Is The Format Of The IIHF Men's World Under-18 Championship?

The IIHF World Men's Under-18 Championship follows the same exact format as the World Junior Championship.The tournament features 10 teams, split into two preliminary-round groups of five. The preliminary round is played in a round-robin format which each of the top four teams advancing to the playoff round. The teams that finish last in either group will have to play in the relegation round to stay at the top level next year.

The tournament has an eight-team quarterfinal round with teams crossing over (i.e. the first-place team from Group A will play the fourth-place team from Group B in the quarterfinals). The tournament then re-seeds for the semifinals with the highest remaining seed playing the lowest remaining seed among the four teams left.

The winners of each semifinal play in the gold-medal game, while the losers of the semifinals play in the bronze-medal game.
