Jade Carey Prepares For U.S. Classic After Stellar First Elite Competition
Jade Carey is a new senior elite gymnast who trains at Oasis Gymnastics in Peoria, Arizona. She made a big splash at her first-ever elite competition last month, winning all three events in which she competed at the 2017 American Classic held at the Karolyi Ranch in Huntsville, Texas.

At 16 years old, Carey began her elite journey after an outstanding three years at the top of the J.O. program. Last year at the 2016 J.O. Nationals, Carey performed a tucked Kasumatsu full on vault and it became 'the Carey.'

The future Oregon State Beaver trains under the direction of her dad, Brian, and the duo is gearing up for the U.S. Classic this weekend in Hoffman Estates, Illinois. Carey is keeping some of her exciting upgrades under wraps and is excited to debut them at this summer's meets!

FloGymnastics caught up with Carey to hear about her first elite meet and this summer's upcoming competitions:

How did you feel heading into the American Classic?
I was really excited to compete again.

How did the meet go for you?
I thought it went really well especially for my first elite competition.

Take me through the competition event by event…
I started first up on beam and I was happy that I hit my routine. Floor went well I made all passes and then I landed both my vaults successfully.

What did it feel like to do so well?
It made me really motivated to keep working hard.

When you decided to go elite, did you have specific goals in mind?
My goals are always geared towards pushing myself to reach my full potential.

Who was involved in you making the decision to go the elite route?
Myself and my coaches.

What was the transition like getting into elite?
Challenging and rewarding at the same time.

What was your first camp like?
It was an eye-opening experience. I was happy to make some new friends and get the opportunity to work with the National Staff.

What was something unexpected or funny that happened at national team camp?
One time there was a tornado warning that turned out to be fun because we ended up with a unique bonding experience.

What's different about your elite path than other elite gymnasts?
I think other elite gymnasts typically started their path younger than I did.

What it's like having your dad as your coach?
I know that he always has my back and we have a bond that is unbreakable. I like that we can have fun in and out of the gym.

How are you feeling heading into the U.S. Classic?
I am eager for another opportunity to compete.

Are you planning to compete bars or will you do the same events as the American Classic?
Same events -- vault, beam, and floor.

What things are you looking forward to for U.S. Classic?
I am looking forward to competing on the podium in Chicago.

Do you have specific goals for the meet?
To hit three for three and have fun.

What is your main goal for this season?
My main goal for this season is to take advantage of every opportunity that presents itself.

What are your long-term goals for gymnastics?
To have a successful elite and college career.
