Top Execution Scores from 2016 U.S. Olympic Trials

In one of the most important meets of the year, fourteen gymnasts took to the stage this past weekend as a final step on the road to the Olympics. These gymnasts were looking to perform at their very best in an effort to secure their spots on the Olympic team.

In addition to difficulty level, top notch execution is important for achieving the scores needed to make a case for being on the team. By now, these gymnasts have been practicing these routines over and over, with perfecting execution being front of mind.

Over the two days of Trials, every member of the Olympic team scored in the top three in execution on at least one event. Laurie Hernandez had the most impressive showing - she made top three on every event except bars, and she had the best execution on both bars and beam. Simone Biles, Gabby Douglas, Aly Raisman and Madison Kocian, all made top three in execution on two events. Vault

No one even came close to Simone Biles on vault execution. Her Amanar on the second day of competition was sky high and nearly stuck, earning her a 9.9. Coming in behind Biles was Laurie Hernandez, who was very consistent and scored a 9.35 on both days for her double. There's a 4-way tie for third place, with Maggie Nichols, Gabby Douglas, Amelia Hundley and Brenna Dowell all scoring 9.3 on their doubles. Nichols scored this number on both days of competition.

Uneven Bars

Unsurprisingly, Ashton Locklear maintained her place as the execution queen on bars. She scored the highest execution on the first day of competition with a 9.25, just ahead of Madison Kocian, who scored a 9.2 on the second day. Third place was a tie between Simone Biles and Gabby Douglas, who both scored an 8.85 - Biles on the first day, and Douglas on the second day.

Balance Beam

Laurie Hernandez was last up to compete on the final day of competition, and she went out with a bang, performing a beautiful beam routine. She was rewarded well for her efforts, scoring a 9.2 in execution, the highest on beam throughout both days. Following her was Ragan Smith, who also had a good day two, scoring a 9.1. Lastly, Aly Raisman performed a hit set on day two and scored a 9.05.

Floor Exercise

Once again, Laurie Hernandez takes the top spot on execution. She scored a 9.1 on the first day of competition for the highest E-score on floor. Aly Raisman comes in just behind her, also for her routine on day one, with a 9.05. In third place is a tie between fellow Olympians Madison Kocian and Simone Biles, who both scored an 8.9 (Kocian on day two, Biles on day one).
