Tight Mind Monday: Getting Focused & Staying Focused

Doc Ali’s Tight Mind Monday 4-25-16: Focused

It’s hard to  be focused in gym everyday. Especially when you have things like school, pressure, and of course who is going to win DWTS on your mind!  In this Tight Mind Monday, Doc Ali gives a very important tool to staying focused, activating your mind on the correction.

The body follows the mind. If the mind is tight, the body will  be tight. If the mind is fearful, the body will look fearful. When you anchor your mind on the last correction, the body will respond by making that correction.

How to focus your mind every turn:

1. Listen to the corrections your coaches give you.

2. Bring that correction down to one word. For example, if your coach says “lean over the bar” shorten that to simply “lean”. If you coach says “block harder off the table” shorten that to “block”

3. Say that word with command on the next turn as you perform the skill.

4. Do this EVERY TURN!

When you focus your mind on corrections it becomes present, strong, and non-emotional. Don’t let the monkeys kidnap your mind. Keep it locked down and watch how your body responds.
