Tight Mind Monday: Robotic Training to Build Consistency and Excellence

Doc Ali’s Tight Mind Monday 11-14-16: Robotic

What are the characteristics of the “robots” in our lives?  When we think about our phones, computers, and tablets we expect them to perform in certain ways. First, we expect them to do the same thing every time. When you click on a file, it better AUTOMATICALLY bring up that file and not something else. Also, we expect our robots to do things with excellence. I know when my computer is moving very slow, or has the “spinning wheel of death” I want to throw it out the window! Finally, computers are non-emotional and never take things personally. When I yell at Siri for not giving me the right directions, she just stays calm and responds by saying in her computer voice, “Where do you want to go?”

This week, we will work on being robots when we walk into the gym. When we are more emotional, our workouts are inconsistent, and it’s more likely fear and frustration will take over.

Here are some Tight Mind Tips to be more robotic and less emotional in the gym.

1. Lock your mind down on robotic key words. One word, one syllable, the corrections your coach would be saying if he or she were whispering in your ear. “Push”, “tight”, “wait” are good examples. Robot words help keep your mind tight, focused and activate the correction in your body.

2. Put a dot on your hand that is your robot “on switch”. When you walk into the gym, push this button and say a statement to yourself like, “game on” or “robot on”. This will help you leave behind any stress or negativity that happened in your day outside of the gym so you are ready to work.

3. Use your dot as a “robot reset”. Just as you have to restart your computer at times, your brain needs a reset if you are stuck in fear, frustration, or negativity. If you are having a bad day, push the button on your hand, say to yourself “Stop”, take a deep breath and then tell yourself “nothing gets to me.”  “Nothing gets to me” is our robot reset statement this week.

Of course we just want to activate your robot in the gym. Outside of the gym be sure to be your wild, joyful and goofy self! This week be a robot and see how much further you can get when you are MORE ROBO LESS EMO!
