125: #16 Trevor Mastrogiovanni (OK State) vs Jackson DiSario (Stanford)

Both Disario and Mastrogiovanni qualified for the 2021 NCAA Tournament but failed to earn All-American honors. Disario went 0-2 but Mastrogiovanni made it all the way to the round of 16. Based on last season alone, Mastrogiovanni should be considered the favorite here but expect DiSario to hold it to a decision. Of note, DiSario did wrestle up at 133 last weekend so we could see Chundi instead. If that’s the case, there’s major bonus point potential for Mastro against Chundi.

133: #2 Daton Fix (OK State) vs Jason Miranda/Jackson DiSario (Stanford)

Coming off a World Silver medal, Daton Fix is one of the top contenders to win an NCAA title this year in a loaded 133 field. In this dual, it shouldn’t matter who Fix sees as he should put up bonus points against either DiSario or Miranda.

Prediction: Fix by Tech Fall - Oklahoma State 8, Stanford 0

141: Dusty Hone/Carter Young (OK State) vs #11 Real Woods (Stanford)

Word on the street is we could see Carter Young in an Oklahoma State singlet by the end of the year. However, expect to see Dusty Hone take the mat in this dual against Real Woods. With that in mind, Woods does have a 6-2 win over Hone from the 2020 Southern Scuffle and should be considered the favorite here.

149: Kaden Gfeller (OK State) vs #5 Jaden Abas (Stanford)

Jaden Abas put together a great 2021 NCAA Tournament and came away with 7th place All-American honors. In the opening weekend, Abas picked up right where he left off with four , bonus-point wins to take first at the Menlo Open. On the other side of things, Kaden Gfeller is still looking to put together a complete season. A national qualifier in 2018, Gfeller has yet to get back to the big show. This will be a great opening test for Gfeller who, if he’s wrestling his best, is a threat to almost every wrestler in the country at 149 pounds. 

Prediction: Abas by Decision - Oklahoma State 8, Stanford 6

157: #16 Wyatt Sheets (OK State) vs Charlie Darracott (Stanford)

After Big 12s last season, Wyatt Sheets had a 6-8 record and was a late replacement at the 2021 NCAA Tournament. However, Sheets took full advantage of his chance at NCAAs and took home 8th place All-American honors. This year, Sheets is back to full health and should be a big favorite in this match against Darracott. 

Prediction: Sheets by Major Decision - Oklahoma State 12, Stanford 6

165: #7 Travis Wittlake (OK State) vs #1 Shane Griffith (Stanford)

This is the marquee matchup of the dual and should be fantastic. Shane Griffith put together a historic NCAAs last year and was one of the top stories coming out of the tournament. On top of being the defending NCAA Champion, Griffith has a head-to-head win over Wittlake from the 2020 Southern Scufffle. Though much is in favor of Griffith, Wittlake is capable of winning this match. After Wittlake lost in the second round at NCAAs, he put together five straight wins to take home 4th place All-American honors. Expect this match to be a close, 1 or 2 point decision, decided on who can win the takedown battle.

174: #20 Dustin Plott (OK State) vs HM Tyler Eischens (Stanford)

Dustin Plott wrestled last year with a severely injured shoulder but still managed to qualify for the NCAA tournament going 1-2. Now reportedly back to 100%, Plott has the potential to climb the rankings at 174. Wittlake should face off against Tyler Eischens, a national qualifier back in 2020 at 157. Eischens didn’t find the same success last year at 174 - he went 6-3 and didn’t wrestle at the conference tournament for the Cardinals. Expect Plott to control this match from start to finish and challenge for bonus points. 

Prediction: Plott by Decision - Oklahoma State 15, Stanford 9

184: #6 Dakota Geer (OK State) vs Judah Duhm/Ethan Woods (Stanford)

Two-time All-American #6 Dakota Geer is back for his final season of competition and is one of the best 184lb wrestlers in the county. Regardless of who Stanford sends to the mat, expect Geer to win in a controlling match with bonus point potential.

Prediction: Geer by Major Decision - Oklahoma State 19, Stanford 9

197: #1 AJ Ferrari (OK State) vs Nick Stemmet (Stanford)

While many will tune into this match because of the trash-talking between Ferrari and Stemmet, the action in the match shouldn’t be as compelling as the dm’s. The only element that could make this match close is if Ferrari is less than 100% after he spent much of the summer rehabbing an injury. If healthy, AJ Ferrari should be considered a big favorite here and win in dominant fashion.

285: Luke Surber/#9 Austin Harris (OK State) vs Peter Ming (Stanford)

Last season Austin Harris was 1 match away from achieving All-American honors. However, prior to leaving for Stanford, Coach Smith mentioned he expects Luke Surber to be the starter against Stanford after he beat both Harris and Konnor Doucet in the wrestle-offs. On the other side of things, Stanford’s heavyweight, freshman Peter Ming, did go undefeated winning the Menlo Open last weekend but will be a considerable underdog against either Harris or Surber.

Final Score - Oklahoma State 26, Stanford 9

Oklahoma State is a considerable favorite but this dual should be a lot of fun with quality matchups from start to finish. In order to make this a winnable dual for Stanford, they will need to limit bonus points in their loss and earn multiple upsets. The best chances for Stanford to steal matches are at 125 with DiSario and 174 with Eischens. Crazier things have happened in dual meets and I expect Stanford to bring the fight to Oklahoma State in their first home meet of this season.
