The postponement of the Olympic Games to July 2021 gives the FIG a wider window to reorganize the Gymnastics event calendar, especially regarding the remaining qualifying events for Tokyo 2020 that had been postponed.

For this reason, the FIG will wait until the global health crisis is under control and governmental restrictions are lifted before rescheduling the events that were originally to be held between mid-March and July.

Those events include the three 2020 World Championships – Parkour, Aerobic Gymnastics and Acrobatic Gymnastics – as well as the World Cup events that were, perhaps too optimistically, initially either postponed to June or expected to run on schedule.

Reorganizing this year’s calendar might take time. In these exceptional circumstances, the FIG believes that it is paramount to act with caution and be sure that athletes can have fair access to the events that they wish to take part in and the preparation time necessary to be able to compete at a high level.
