ORLANDO, Fla. - Georgia Southern softball notched a pair of wins on Saturday at the Citrus Classic, downing Bethune-Cookman and Charleston Southern at the Disney/ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in Orlando.

The Eagles (7-2) earned a 5-1 win over Bethune-Cookman in the first game, then blanked Charleston Southern, 4-0, in their second contest. Georgia Southern wraps up action at the Classic on Sunday morning, taking on Charleston Southern at 11:30 a.m.

"We had two solid games against some good competitors in Bethune-Cookman and Charleston Southern today," Georgia Southern Head Softball Coach Kim Dean said. "Timely hitting and really good pitching again by Allyssah & Rylee helped lead us to the wins. I was happy we had a solid defensive day and it's always a great day when you can provide opportunities to get innings and at-bats for some of our freshman and sophomores. I'm proud of us continuing to fight as a team and we're looking forward to closing out the tournament strong tomorrow!"

GAME ONE: Georgia Southern 5, Bethune-Cookman 1

Senior Mekhia Freeman's solo home run leading off the bottom of the sixth inning snapped a 1-1 tie and sparked a four-run frame that helped the Eagles claim the victory over the Wildcats in the first game of the day.

Senior Alia Booth, junior Allyssah Mullis and freshman Olivia Creamer all came up with RBIs in the four-run inning for Georgia Southern.

Freshman Aaliyah Garcia improved to 4-0 in the circle with the complete-game five-hitter, giving up just one run while striking out six. Bethune-Cookman's Destiny Enriquez took the loss, giving up eight hits and five runs - four earned - in six innings of work, walking one while striking out three.

Faith Shirley had a pair of hits in the contest, while Freeman's home run was her third of the young season.

GAME TWO: Georgia Southern 4, Charleston Southern 0

Junior Rylee Waldrep spun a five-hit shutout, while the Eagles scored four runs in the middle innings to take the win over the Buccaneers in game two on Saturday.

Waldrep hurled just 80 pitches in notching the first shutout for the Eagles this season, and the second of her career. She walked one and struck out four to improve to 2-1 on the year in the circle.

Sophomore Ashlynn Gunter's RBI single in the third opened up the scoring, then the Eagles plated two in the fourth thanks to an error and sophomore Shelby Barfield's first career hit as a Eagle. Freshman Bailee Wilson's RBI in the fifth capped the scoring for Georgia Southern.

Charleston Southern's Alyssa Heinrich (0-2) took the loss in the circle, giving up four hits and four runs in four-plus innings of work, walking three and striking out three.
