Ashton Locklear Announces Gymnastics Retirement
Ashton Locklear announced her retirement from gymnastics on May 16.
World Champion and Olympic Alternate Ashton Locklear announced her retirement from gymnastics on May 16, 2019.
Locklear was a part of the 2014 gold-medal-winning U.S. world championship team in Nanning, China. Earlier that year, she helped Team USA win gold at the Pan Am Championships and also earned an individual gold medal on bars.
In 2016, Locklear was chosen as one of the three alternates for the U.S. Olympic Team and was recognized a part of the Olympic Team that won gold in Rio.
Locklear was known as a bar specialist for much of her career but was limited from the all-around mainly due to injuries. In her announcement on social media, injuries were noted as a major reason for her retirement.
