Aly Raisman has teamed up with Darkness to Light, launching a training initiative aimed at education and prevention of child sexual abuse.

In light of the recent trial of Larry Nassar, in which 144 women shared stories of abuse at the hands of the former USA Gymnastics team doctor, Raisman is using her notoriety to affect positive change in youth sports—starting with gymnastics.

Raisman received a courtroom ovation for her rousing impact statement during Nassar's sentencing, and the six-time Olympic medalist isn't finished.

During an interview with Sports Illustrated, Raisman discussed her motivation behind the project.

“To address this terrible problem, we all need to be willing to confront it head-on,” Raisman said. “Sexual abuse is something that needs to be discussed openly—especially now."

She stressed the importance of educating adults involved in youth sports and teaching the ways to detect red flags and prevent abuse.

"Ignoring the issue, in hopes that it goes away, is unacceptable," she said. "Athlete safety must be the highest priority."

Her commitment to the cause is clear on Flip The Switch's website, where Raisman provides an access code so anyone who wishes to enroll can do so at no cost. She also promises Twitter followers an autographed certificate for those who complete the program.

Fans and celebrities alike are standing behind Raisman's efforts as she forges a path toward safety for children in sports and empowerment of women everywhere.

Raisman was also recognized in a tweet from Google celebrating International Women's Day for her impact statement.
