U.S. Gymnasts Set To Compete At 2018 City of Jesolo Trophy

Eight U.S. elite gymnasts are set to compete at the 2018 City of Jesolo Trophy competition April 14-15 in Jesolo, Italy. USA Gymnastics will not be sending a team to the competition, but individual gymnasts have still opted to compete in the prestigious competition as individuals representing their club teams.

Below are the current U.S. gymnasts set to compete, with the possibility that more may be added.

Sydney Barros, Texas Dreams
Olivia Dunne, ENA Paramus
Adeline Kenlin, Iowa Gym-Nest
Emma Malabuyo, Texas Dreams
Grace McCallum, Twin City Twisters
Alyona Shchennikova, 5280 Gymnastics
Ragan Smith, Texas Dreams
Tori Tatum, Twin City Twisters

For all eight gymnasts, this will be their first international elite competition of 2018.

Smith, Malabuyo, and Kenlin are current U.S. national team members. Smith was on USA's 2017 World Championship team and competed in qualifications but ultimately withdrew from the competition due to an injury at the championships.

Russia, Germany, France, Great Britain, Canada, Brazil, Belgium, China, and Italy are expected to send teams to compete in this year's meet.

We will be live streaming the competition on April 14 and 15 as well as providing archived training videos from the venue in Jesolo in the days leading up to the competition.

It is no secret that gymnastics is a hard sport to stay in. It’s extremely wearing on the body, tough mentally—honestly it can just be downright scary. Many gymnasts’ careers are marred by injuries, and the higher you progress in the sport, the more of your teammates start dropping out for one reason or another. Only a lucky few ever make it to the elite or college levels.
