Top Freshmen To Watch: 2017-18 NCAA Gymnastics Season
With the 2017-18 season just around the corner, let's take a look at some of the top freshmen to watch this season. There's more incredible talent from elite and J.O. fields, including Olympic hopefuls and J.O. national team members. These gymnasts are sure to bring a boost to their teams and be ones to watch this season.

Please note, this list is by no means exhaustive given all the talented freshmen.

Nia Dennis | UCLA

Dennis comes to a very talented UCLA team but will definitely offer a boost of energy and flare. She brings a spark of energy along with huge gymnastics that will make an immediate impact for the Bruins. Dennis will be an outstanding all-around gymnast for the Bruins but will make the biggest impact on vault and floor with her power and explosiveness.

Alyssa Baumann | Florida

Baumann is set to make her freshman debut this season at Florida after deferring a year due to a severe elbow injury that required surgery. Baumann's gymnastics brings elegant lines and outstanding execution that will be a boost to any event this season. She's eager to get back out on the competition floor and will use her incredible competition experience to help the Gators succeed this season. Baumann was a member of the gold-medal-winning team at the 2014 World Championships in Nanning, China, along with being a four-time U.S. national team member.

null

Christina Desiderio | LSU

Desiderio is a two-time U.S. national team member who joins the Tigers a year early, ready to help her team win their first national title. Desiderio is an impressive all-around gymnast, who will be a great asset to the Tigers by adding depth on all four events. She is particularly known for her power and incredible tumbling, and will be one to watch on beam and floor.

null

Bailie Key | Alabama

Key is one of the most anticipated freshmen to watch this season after having a very successful elite career. Despite facing many injuries throughout her elite career, Key will be a big contributor for the Tide. She hasn't competed in quite some time due to a back injury, but look for her to return strong and succeed as an NCAA gymnast. Key can make any lineup and bring in a big score, but look for her to shine bright on beam and floor for Alabama.

null

Emily Schild | Georgia

Schild will be a gymnast to watch this season for the Georgia Gym Dogs as they aim to turn the program around with new head coach Courtney Kupets Carter. Schild had outstanding success in her elite career including competing at the 2016 Olympic Trials. She will provide a big routine for the Gym Dogs on bars with her incredible difficulty and clean lines. Don't count Schild out as an all-around competitor as she has impressive routines across the board.

null

Rachael Flam | Stanford

Flam is coming off an outstanding J.O. career including being the two-time defending national champion. The Cardinal will benefit from Flam's clean gymnastics on all four events this season, especially her 10.0 SV vault which will be a key routine. Flam's cool and consistent demeanor during competitions will be an outstanding asset to Stanford this season.
