Sami Durante of Georgia Elite announced her commitment to LSU for the 2017-2018 season on Thursday. Durante originally committed to the University of Georgia to train under the guidance of her mom, former Gym Dogs head coach Danna Durante, but was released following UGA's recent coaching change that instated Courtney Kupets Carter in that role.
A three-time J.O. Nationals qualifier, Durante will join the Tigers this fall following an impressive final club season. The Athens, GA, native finished the 2017 J.O. Nationals with a 36.925 to take 39th all-around in the Senior E division. She tied for second all-around at Region 8 regionals with a strong 37.525. At Georgia Elite, Durante has trained under Pete Arenas, Cassidy Bernstein, Amber Stiles, and Doug McAvinn.
After weeks of deliberation, Durante ultimately selected LSU over Oklahoma, Florida, Utah, and Pittsburgh.
