U.S. Men Take Home Five Golds From Guimaraes International Tournament

INDIANAPOLIS, June 14, 2017 – Team USA won the men’s team competition over the weekend at the Guimaraes International Tournament in Guimaraes, Portugal. In addition, the U.S. squad added six medals during the apparatus finals, including four gold. 

The U.S. team, composed of Allan Bower of Chandler, Ariz./University of Oklahoma, Yul Moldauer of Arvada, Colo./University of Oklahoma, and Kanji Oyama of Norman, Okla./U.S. Olympic Training Center, combined for a team score of 164.650, more than 10 points clear of second place Norway (154.300). Portugal took the bronze medal. 

In the floor final, Bower took home the silver medal, posting a 14.000. Sweden’s Kim Wanstrom took first at 14.100. Oyama finished sixth. Moldauer (13.950) and Bower (12.600) finished second and fourth, respectively, in the pommel horse final. Wissem Harzi of Tunisia won the title with a 14.200. On the still rings, Moldauer captured the gold, posting a 14.650. He added another gold on the parallel bars with a 14.700. Oyama was the champion on the vault and went on to close out the meet with the fourth individual gold of the day for the United States and his second of the day, posting a 13.650 on the high bar.

In a USA Gymnastics press release made public today, the organization announced the resignation of three board members from their executive leadership positions: chairman Paul Parilla, vice chairman Jay Binder, and treasurer Bitsy Kelley. Their resignations went into effect yesterday. The board of directors will identify an interim chairperson until a permanent selection is named.
