Samantha Partyka, who finished her sophomore season at the University of Utah in April, is retiring from the sport as a result of back and leg injuries.

Partyka announced the news on her private Instagram account, which the Deseret News reported Tuesday.

She told the Deseret News she's been dealing with the injuries "all season" and has been considering retirement since the end of the 2016 season.

"I just came to the conclusion that it was time for me to see what else is in store for me," Partyka told the Deseret News. "It has been on my mind, and it's definitely not something I took lightly."

While competing for Utah, the former elite gymnast competed on all four events in 2016, including a few all-around performances later in the season.

She began her collegiate career competing on vault, where she was an All-American in 2015. Co-head coaches Megan Marsden and Tom Farden will look to fill spots in all four event lineups with Partyka's departure, in addition to the graduation of the senior class.

Despite her retirement from the sport, Partyka will continue to attend Utah, where she's studying elementary education.
