INTERESTING QUOTES!

David Sender on his post-2008 Nationals-Present time:

"There were days, bad days that it was really tough to push myself through because I didn't HAVE to be doing it. But that didn't last all that long, and actually by the time Durante got there [Stanford], I think he got in in November, he really helped kind of push me through that and he was a big help on that part, not letting me give up and really making sure I still pushed myself, and I really enjoyed this year. I had a lot of fun kind of doing the gymnastics that I wanted to be doing, you know, and the competitions that I wanted to go to, and it was a good year, looking back."

Sender on making the national team despite announcing his retirement:

"I would have to officially resign for them to not put me on the team. I'm not exactly sure what's going to happen with that. They might want me to hang around, hoping that I will be able to compete sometime in this year, but I haven't figured it all out yet."

He then went on to say he's going to the first semester of vet school for sure and then going to see how much training time he thinks he would have. Personally I'm hoping USAG will pressure him into putting off vet school for a semester or a year, so he can go to Worlds. I know he's hurting (it was very obvious tonight, 5 falls on 6 apparatus, the Stanford coach told me he asked for advil before the meet which is apparently very uncharacteristic) but just his vaults alone are one of the reasons I think he'd be a great asset to the team. We shall see what happens.

Jonathan Horton

On his performance:

"I feel great, but I can always find a million things that I did wrong in my competition. Right now though, I'm extremely happy with how I did. I had a really good time; I think the crowd drove me. Just being in competition again got me through, regardless of the physical shape that I'm in. So I'm excited and ecstatic with what I did. It's a fantastic competition and I couldn't be happier with myself. I know I have a long way to go, though, if I want to keep up with the rest of the world."

On his first national championship:

"I'm always trying to one-up myself, so I'm going to go back and repeat this competition. I'm going to get back into practice and see how I can make each individual event better. I know I'm the national champion, but there's no way I could compete with the rest of the world. So at this moment I'm extremely motivated to get back in the gym and to improve myself. But it's great to finally have this one in the book."

Tim McNeill

On his second-place finish:

"I went in with the attitude that I was capable of finishing in the top three or even winning, so I had that in mind all through training and in preparation for this. That was always the hope and I'm just thrilled that it happened."

On his performance:

"I think a lot of people look at me as a specialist, especially on parallel bars or pommel horse, but it was amazing to go through the whole round and having it go so well. Hopefully people will come to see me as more well-rounded."
