Kacy Catanzaro competed with Towson gymnastics for the 2009-2012 seasons.  The gymnastics alumna displayed her athletic talents by earning the titles of NCAA Southeast Regional Gymnast of the Year and the ECAC Gymnast of the Year during her collegiate career.  Now, she displays her athletic talent in a new way, on NBC’s obstacle course show, American Ninja Warrior.

With her successful gymnastics career behind her, Catanzaro set her mind to a new goal and started training to become the first female American Ninja Warrior.

Catanzaro has shocked the nation with her inspirational and record setting journey.  She quickly became the first female competitor to conquer the 17-foot high, warped wall.  The obstacle has only been completed by an elite few and Kacy Catanzaro made it look easy.

Where Catanzaro really shined was during her run in the Dallas finals that qualified her to Mt. Midoriama.  The 5ft, ex gymnast had a disadvantage with her height but that did not stop her. She relied on both her strength and flexibly to maneuver her way through the course.

There were two obstacles where Kacy’s height put her previous gymnastics experience to the test; the swinging frames and the pole grasper. Watching her swing and release from one frame and catching the next reminded us gymnasts of one thing: bar releases.  I’m sure Catanzaro was thankful for her gymnastics training in that moment.

The “Mighty Kacy” has reached the heart of people around the nation with her determination and talent.  In order to really appreciate what she has accomplished, watch her awe-inspiring run for yourself.
