Improving All-around Gold Chances

The prestigious award in any gymnastics competition is the individual all-around gold.  It is sought after because it demonstrates a gymnast’s ability to balance the grace and power of the sport.

Every gymnast has a favorite event and conversely a least favorite event.  The least favorite event usually suffers because the lack of time and effort devoted to it.  However, to win the all-around gold, it is important to find ways to stay motivated when training on every event.

For the more graceful gymnasts, vault and bars are usually the least favorite.  Bars and beam both need a lot of upper body strength so the only thing to do if you want to improve on those events is train your upper body.  Make it into a game so that it seems like less of a chore.  Handstand and pull up contests will allow you to have fun while pushing your body more than you normally would.

Floor is usually a crowd favorite but can be grueling.  The endurance of floor makes it the most difficult.  Having high-level tumbling passes doesn’t matter if you cannot place them all into one routine.  In order to work on your tumbling and endurance simultaneously, do tumble routines.  Take out all of the dance and just do the tumbling passes in a row, and then you can follow with a dance through.

Balance beam is well known to be a feared event.  You only have 4 inches of wood and no margin for error.  For most, beam holds gymnasts back because of the fear of missing your hands or feet.  There is gymnastics equipment to help assist getting over your fears, low beams, medium beams, panel mats, and beam paddings.  All of this equipment helps but it takes a tediously long time to get one skill.  Instead, use the fear to your advantage.  Attempt a a new skill on the low beam a few times and then go straight to the high beam.  As terrifying as that sounds, the fear will help you focus enough to do the skill properly.  Do yourself a favor and get rid of crutches that hold you back.
