Stellar Seniors - Erica Brewer, Oklahoma

This week, our stellar senior is Oklahoma Sooner, Erica Brewer. Erica is one of Oklahoma’s top all around gymnasts who has achieved huge scores for the team since her freshman season. Erica is originally from Louisville, Kentucky and trained at Champion Gymnastics under Tiffani Orem. She rose to prominence in Kentucky gymnastics, being an eight-time state champion and being named the 2009 Kentucky Gymnast of the Year. Erica also made a splash on the national stage, qualifying to the J.O. National Team and winning the beam championship one year and placing third in the All-Around at J.O. Championships. Erica was highly sought after in the collegiate world, and was recruited by Auburn, LSU, Alabama, N.C. State, Illinois, Michigan and Nebraska, in addition to Oklahoma.
Erica started her freshman season at Oklahoma in 2012, winning second-team All-America honors in the all-around and on bars that year. While some freshmen take their time getting used to collegiate gymnastics, Erica did not have this problem, and she actually managed to score her career best on beam – a 9.95 - which she achieved in her very first beam routine as a Sooner. She won a total of three individual event titles that year – the all-around title (vs. Missouri) and two beam titles (one vs. Missouri, one vs. Alabama). Check out her amazing beam routine below:
Her success continued in her sophomore year, when she scored her career best on bars with a 9.95 at NCAA Championships, tying for first place. She earned first-team All-America honors on bars and beam, in addition to being two-time NACGC second-team All-American and two-time All-Big 12 on the same events. Erica also set a career-best in the all-around with a 39.525 at the Perfect 10 Challenge, and also scored her career best on floor with a huge 9.9 in a meet against West Virginia. She finished fourth in the NCAA Individual Finals on bars, scoring the second highest score in Sooner history. She upped her individual title count in 2013, winning seven titles in total – two in the all-around, three on bars, and two on beam.
Erica continued to contribute high scores in her junior year, helping Oklahoma to win the NCAA Championships that year in a tie with Florida, despite being out of competition for a few weeks of the season with an injury. She still managed to gain five more individual titles as well and also scored a 9.9 on bars during Super Six finals. In addition, she added a new career best with a score of 9.875 on vault.
In her senior year, Erica has been just as strong as ever, competing bars, beam and floor exercise for the Sooners. She tied her career best on beam in the first meet of the season with a 9.9 against Arkansas. She also tied her career best on bars with a 9.95 in the meet against Texas Woman’s and SENO.
What’s next for Erica for the remainder of her final season with Oklahoma? We’re hoping for a perfect 10!
