Results: Laurie Hernandez Claims Junior Title At 2015 Secret U.S. Classic


After an exciting competition, Laurie Hernandez of MG Elite won the 2015 Secret U.S. Classic junior title with a 58.45. Ragan Smith of Texas Dreams placed second with a 57.7 and Jazmyn Foberg of MG Elite placed third with a 57.4. Hernandez won vault and bars with a 14.9 and 15.0 respectively. Foberg won beam with a 14.65 and Smith won floor with a 15.0.
In the first rotation, Smith started off the entire competition with a solid Yurchenko double full to earn a 14.7. Teammate Grace Quinn matched her score after also performing a great Yurchenko double full. Jordan Chiles was close behind with a 14.6 for her big Amanar but she ended up putting her hand down to the side.
Hernandez had an awesome bar routine with high flying releases and beautiful form to score the rotation high of a 15.0. Buckeye duo Shania Adams and Shilese Jones started on floor where Adams earned a 14.1 and Jones a 14.05 after powerful tumbling and fun routines. Jones especially impressed with her opening 1 1/2 step out to back full in.
In the second rotation, Hernandez kept her top spot after a beautiful beam routine for a 14.2. Foberg posted a 14.65 to move up to second. Chiles performed a clean routine on bars including a Tkatchev to bail to handstand to earn a 14.1.
Smith hit a much improved bar set for a 13.9 on her weakest event. Gabby Perea of Legacy Elite performed a solid beam routine with her signature standing tuck full to score a 13.95. Jones performed an easy Yurchenko double full to score a 14.6 and move into fourth place. Another highlight of the second rotation was Christina Desiderio who performed a strong floor routine with a tuck double double to score a 14.85.
In the third rotation, Hernandez kept her top spot after a stunning floor routine that combined expressive dance and powerful tumbling to score a 14.35. Smith moved into second after a solid beam routine including a standing tuck full and a double pike dismount for a 14.1. Desiderio performed a big Yurchenko double full for a 14.45. Foberg impressed with huge tumbling including a layout full in and a tuck double double but had trouble on landings and earned a 13.85. Deanne Soza of Arete posted a 14.35 for a solid floor routine.
Heading into the final rotation, Hernandez was first, Smith was second, and Desiderio was third.
In the final rotation, Hernandez finish on vault with a solid Yurchenko double full to earn a 14.9 and score a big 58.45 all-around to secure her win. Smith finished on floor with a big, crowd-pleasing routine to earn a 15.0 and post a 57.7 all-around for second place. Foberg had a great Yurchenko double full to score a 14.8 and a 57.4 all-around for third place. Perea finished on on vault with a solid 13.95 for a Yurchenko full to give her a 55.55 for fourth place. Soza finished on vault as well with a clean Yurchenko double full for a 14.6 and 55.5 all-around. In sixth was Jones who scored a 13.25 on beam for a 55.2 all-around. Seventh was Sydney Johnson-Scharpf after a huge floor routine including a piked Arabian double front to finish with a 55.15. Chiles finished in eighth place after a fall on floor with a 55.05 all-around. Desiderio fell on bars and ended up placing 10th overall.
