Hallie Peele Gets Bar Dismount Named The 'Peele'
Last month Hallie Peele successfully competed a new skill at JO Nationals and was rewarded with the skilled named after her. She successfully completed the 'Peele' bars dismount, which consisted of a double layout dismount with half twist on the second flip. Peele was the first gymnast to complete successfully at Nationals to get the skill named after her. Peele scored a 9.50 on her bar routine, with a small hop on the dismount. Congratulations Peele!

Watch her dismount here:

Peele is a level 10 gymnast from Southeastern Gymnastics in Weddington, NC. She trains under coaches Ludmilla Shobe, Galina Meliakina, Egor Grebenkov and Aleksandr Shlyuyev Peele qualified to JO Nationals after finishing 2nd all-around with a 37.975 and 2nd on vault with a 9.70, along with 4th on bars at regionals (region 8). At the 2015 JO Natioanls, Peele finished with a 37.325 all-around with a 9.625 on vault and 9.50 on bars in the junior D division. Peele has committed to the University of Pittsburg to begin in the 2017-18 season.

Gymnastike recently spoke with Peele about her new dismount:

What is the story behind your new dismount?
My coach pretty much came up with the skill. Last summer my coach wanted me to start doing a full twisting double layout so I started out with half, then I started doing fulls but they ended up not working out so I just stuck with double layout half.

What is the most exciting part of having a skill named after you?
Everything about having a skill named after me is exciting. Knowing that, that skill will forever be called the “Peele” is just an amazing feeling. Also knowing that people will be trying and possibly competing that skill and calling it the “Peele” is also an awesome feeling. It’s still hard to believe that I actually have a skill named after me.

How long have you been training the new skill? Have you performed this skill all season?
I had been training the dismount for about a year, not knowing it was a new skill. I probably performed this skill at half or a little more than half of my competitions.

Were you nervous to perform the dismount at Nationals?
I was very nervous to perform this skill at nationals because it's so much pressure, but I didn’t let my nerves get to me and I stayed calm. I just performed the skill like I usually do at practice. I also felt like I had so many people counting on me to land this skill which made me more nervous but that didn’t matter because I wanted to land this skill for myself because I've worked so hard for it.

Have you been informed that your skill is official?
I have been informed that my skill is official with a certificate that gives the description and difficulty of the skill. I am also being given an award at the Region 8 banquet at the end of June for my skill.

Anything else you would like us to know about your dismount/season?
Landing this dismount and officially calling it mine was one of the happiest moments in my career besides getting a scholarship to the college of my dreams. (Peele will be attending the University of Pittsburgh)
