Battle In Prelim Session #1

The six teams featured in the afternoon session include; Georgia, Michigan, Utah, UCLA, Florida and Stanford. This session will be a dog fight until the end as team’s battle for a bid to the Super Six competition. Also on the line during prelims is the all-around title.

Georgia- The Georgia Gym Dogs are coming off a win at their regional with a team score of 197.025. The Gym Dogs will have a favorable draw, starting on vault, with Olympic Order. The Gym Dogs made a statement by winning their regional and will look to continue to prove that they belong in the Super Six. Georgia hit four strong rotations and will need that again to qualify into the Super Six competition. Chelsea Davis, Brandie Jay and Brittany Rogers will be key leaders for the Gym Dogs to qualify back to the Super Six this season.

Georgia- The Georgia Gym Dogs are coming off a win at their regional with a team score of 197.025. The Gym Dogs will have a favorable draw, starting on vault, with Olympic Order. Michigan- The Michigan Wolverines finished second at regionals with a team score of 197.00. Michigan will begin on bars and finish on a bye. The Wolverines have proven all year to be a consistent team, and will look to prove that once again. Michigan will need to set a strong team score, as the finish on a bye, and have to wait to see if their score will hold up to qualify into the Super Six. Michigan will look to Nicole Artz, Sachi Sugiyama and Brianna Brown to help them get back to their first Super Six since 2011.

Utah- The Utah Utes finished second at their regional with a team score of 196.575. The Utes will need a stronger performance to qualify into the Super Six. The Utes had to count a fall on beam at Regionals, which will be put to the test at Nationals, as they begin on beam and end on bars. Utah has proved they are a force this year, and will need their best performance to qualify into Super Six. Utah will be led by stellar senior, Georgia Dabritz as they look to qualify back to the Super Six after missing out last year.

UCLA- The UCLA Bruins are coming off a win at their regional with a team score of 197.50. The Bruins will start on floor and finish on a bye. The Bruins will need to set a strong team score as they sit out the final rotation in the first prelim session. Fifth year senior, Sam Peszek will lead the Bruins as they aim to make back to the Super Six, after missing out last season.

Florida- The two time defending National Champions, Florida Gators won regionals with a score of 197.475. The Gators will start on a bye before floor and finish on the very tough, balance beam in the first prelim session. The Gators have proven to be able to handle pressure, and will need to show that to qualify to Super Six. Bridget Sloan was back in the all-around at regionals, and will be a key contributor to the Gators’ success.

Stanford- The Stanford Cardinals finished second at regionals with a score of 197.00. Stanford has a great draw, starting on a bye before bars and finishing on vault. Stanford will look to their only all-arounder in Kristina Vaculik to lead the Cardinals back to their first Super Six competition since 2012.
The first prelim session will also feature six all-around individuals including: Lindsay Mable (Minnesota), Mary Jane Horth (Illinois), Tori Ann Williams (California), Giana O’Connor (Illinois), Caitlin Brown (Iowa State), and Sydney Watz (Kentucky).
