2015 Big Ten Championship Preview

The Big Ten Championships take place this Saturday, hosted by the University of Michigan.  The competition will have two sessions consisting of 10 teams.  The first session set for 11:30am will feature four teams; Michigan State, Rutgers, Maryland and Iowa.  The second session is set for 4:30pm and will feature six teams; Michigan, Nebraska, Penn State, Illinois, Minnesota and Ohio State.  The team with the highest score from either session will win the Big Ten Championship.  The two sessions were seeded based on two Big Five Meets last weekend.

Notes:  Michigan is beyond excited to be in the evening session this year.  The Wolverines won the Big Five meet last week with a 197.00.  Michigan won the regular season title as they went undefeated in the conference.   Michigan will be in the evening session where they start on a bye before floor.  Michigan will have to finish on the tough beam, but this is their strongest event where they are ranked No. 6 in the country.  Look for their consistency, confidence and home team support to pay off as they go to the Big Ten Title.

Notes:  Nebraska will be coming into the Big Ten Championships hungry after a disappointing meet last weekend.  The Cornhuskers had to count a fall early in the meet and had to settle for second at the Big Five Meet.  Nebraska will be in the evening session where they will start on beam.  This can be a tricky event to start on, but look for Nebraska to battle tough for the Big Ten Championship.

Notes:
The Penn State Nittany Lions are having a great season and look to continue their momentum at the Big Ten Championships.  Penn State will be in the evening session and start on bars and have to finish on a bye and wait out their fate.  Penn State has been consistent and strong all season and will look to prove they can battle for the title as well.

Notes:  Illinois is coming off of a win last week at the Big Five meet.  Illinois won with a score of 196.05.  Illinois will be in the evening session with the favorable Olympic order rotation draw.  Illinois will use their momentum from the win last week to propel them towards a championship.

Gymnasts to watch: Lindsay Mable, Jenny Covers

Notes:  The Minnesota Gophers will have nothing to lose this weekend as they go big to the Big Ten Championship.  The Gophers will be led by all-arounder Lindsay Mable.  The Gophers are excited to be the evening session where they will start on vault and finish on a bye.  Minnesota will have to wait out the last rotation to see if they can post a score that will hold up.  Look for the Gophers to go big and look to prove they are still on contender in the Big Ten.
