Missouri Edges Out NC State With Season High
After being behind for the first three rotations, the Missouri Tigers came back to defeat the NC State Wolfpack 196.15-196.0 on senior night.
This is the first time the Tigers have exceeded the 196.0 milestone this season.
Competition began with the Tigers posting a 48.8 on vault, led by freshman Becca Schugel with a 9.825. On the bars, NC State’s Brittni Watkins and Courtney Turner each posted a 9.8 to contribute to their 48.9 score.
Throughout the second rotation, Missouri posted four scores above a 9.8 on bars for a total of 49.075. Chelsea Knight of NC State took the vault title with a score of 9.875. The Wolfpack maintained their lead during the first half of competition (97.90-97.875).
Even after the third rotation, the Wolfpack still kept their slight lead (146.925-146.9). On beam for Missouri, senior Laura Kappler posted a career high of 9.9 as teammate Briana Conkle followed with a 9.825. On floor for the Wolfpack, Watkins tallied a 9.9 to tie her career best.
The night concluded with a competition that could have gone either way. Missouri freshman Kennedi Harris posted a career high of 9.925 to take the floor title. Conkle and sophomore Alyson Heimsath followed with 9.85’s.
NC State’s solid beam rotation fell short by just .15. They went 49.075 on beam with Michaela Woodford topping the Wolfpack scores with a 9.85.
Next weekend the Tigers head to Georgia for the SEC Championship on Saturday, March 21 at 2 p.m. E.T. The Wolfpack will compete on March 22 in the Eastern Atlantic Gymnastics League Conference Championship.
