Big Ten Takes On Non-Conference Opponents
This week in the Big Ten features several non-conference meets and several teams doing double duty. The big meet of the weekend, No. 1 Oklahoma travels to Ann Arbor to take on the No. 6 Michigan Wolverines. In the rankings, Michigan has slipped to No. 6, Nebraska No. 7, Penn State No. 12, Illinois No. 13, Minnesota No. 19 and Ohio State No. 23. Highlights from last weekend include; Lindsay Mable (Minnesota) set a new team record with a 39. 675 all-around, moving her to No. 1 in the AA within the Big Ten. Mable also ties a school record with a 9.975 on floor. Michigan posted its highest beam score on the road, 49.30. Iowa posted an impressive season high 196. 375. Nicole Artz (Michigan) is ranked No. 3 in the nation on beam and No. 9 all-around, Sunny Kato (Illinois) No. 4 on beam, Lindsay Mable No. 5 floor and No. 7 all-around, and Sachi Sugiyama (Michigan) No. 8 all-around.

Gymnast of the Week- Lindsay Mable, Minnesota
• Set a new school record in the all-around with a score of 39.675, en route to a first-place finish in No. 19 Minnesota’s dual meet against No. 7 Nebraska
• Placed first on the floor (9.975) and beam (9.925) and finished second on the vault (9.900) and bars (9.875)
• Tied a career high on the floor and won her seventh consecutive all-around title
Event Specialist of the Week- Jennifer Lauer, Nebraska
• Placed first on the beam with a season-high score of 9.925
• Also scored a 9.750 on the bars
• Guided No. 7 Nebraska to a dual meet win over No. 19 Minnesota
Freshman of the Week- Brianna Brown, Michigan
• Tied for second in the all-around with a score of 39.400 in No. 6 Michigan’s win over Michigan State
• Finished first on the bars (9.950), and scored a 9.875 on the beam and 9.800 on the vault
• Her score on the bars was a career-high mark
Who to Watch This Week
Michigan will welcome in the No. 1 team in the country, Oklahoma this Friday night. The Wolverines are ranked No. 6 and will need their season best against the defending National Champs. The Sooners haven’t traveled to Michigan since 2011. This dual meet is not a conference meet but holds lots of weight in the overall rankings. The Sooners are ranked No. 1 overall along with No. 1 on vault, bars and floor and No. 2 on beam. While Michigan is ranked No. 6 overall and in the top 10 on each event. Michigan will be up against a tough team but look for their consistency and confidence to pave the way for success.
Double duty is a theme for several teams this weekend in the Big Ten. Michigan State, Rutgers, Maryland and Minnesota will all have two meets this weekend. Michigan State will be on the road for Friday and Sunday meets, Minnesota will be away on Friday and host a meet on Sunday, Rutgers will be on the road for two meets and Maryland will have a home-away combination of meets. These teams will have a tough feat to stay fresh on a double meet weekend.
