The number one ranked Sooners got another win tonight in a duel against number 20 Denver. The Pioneers put up a good fight and scored a respectable 195.9 but it wasn’t enough to out do OU who scored a 197.65. Haley Scaman had the vault high with a 9.925, Scaman and McKenzie Wofford both posted the high of a 9.9 on bars, Kara Lovan won beam with a 9.925, and Brenna Dowell earned the floor high of a 9.95. Nina McGee was the sole all-around competitor and posted a 38.875.

 

Oklahoma switched up some of their line ups tonight, possibly in hopes of resting gymnasts to save them for the Metroplex Challenge which is in just two days. Freshman Ali Jackson competed on bars for the first time this season and earned a 9.85 and Hunter Price was added back into the vault lineup where she earned a 9.775. We also got to see a few exhibitions including Charity Jones on bars and floor and Natalie Brown on beam. 

 

While OU didn’t have any falls or major mistakes, they didn’t seem at their very best with some minor mistakes and not as sharp of routines. However, this says a lot about their potential because even with this room to improve, OU still finished with an impressive score. They tied for their season high on beam of a 49.4 and earned their season high on floor with a 49.45. They were a little tight on bars but still scored a 49.375 and posted a 49.425 on vault.

 

Denver had a great meet overall bolstered by their floor performance that scored a 49.25. McGee earned a 9.925 on floor with her fun and entertaining choreography and big tumbling. Denver’s weakest event was on beam where they scored a 48.6 as a team. They only had one fall but weren’t able to score a 9.8 or higher from any of their routines. 

 

Oklahoma will be at the Metroplex Challenge in Fort Worth, Texas on Jan. 31 where they will compete against number two LSU, number eight Arkansas, and number 28 Iowa State. Gymnastike will be streaming this meet live and you can watch on Gymnastike Gold here.
