Chusovitina Out With Injury
Long-time gymnastics veteran Oksana Chusovitina (UZB) has withdrawn from the World Championships due to a foot injury. The 39-year old gymnast was scheduled to compete on October 5th as part of the team from Uzbekistan, but instead she was only present on the floor as a spectator and team supporter.
Chusovitina sustained the foot injury during podium training at the Asian Games last month, and as a result she only competed on vault at that competition. However, according to an NBC OlympicTalk article, she had set her sights on the all-around in Nanning and was hoping that the foot injury would be healed by that point. It seems that the six-time Olympian will have to wait until 2015 to achieve this goal of returning to the all-around, something she has not done on a big international stage since the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
