The men’s competition has officially kicked off at the 2014 European Championships, with the juniors taking the stage on Wednesday for team finals, AA qualifications, and individual apparatus qualifications. As many expected, the British team defended its 2012 title with a total score of 254.094, while Russia also repeated its 2012 performance with a total score of 252.395 to take the silver medal. It was a close race for the bronze, with France narrowly beating out Switzerland by 0.208 in the last subdivision of the day.
In the all-around competition, the British and Russians again stole the spotlight, claiming the top five qualifying positions to the 24-man final on Friday, May 23rd. First through eighth places went to Nile Wilson (GBR), Kirill Potapov (RUS), Brinn Bevan (GBR), Valentin Starikov (RUS), Nikita Nagornyy (RUS), Sascha Alexander Coradi (SUI), Paul Degouy (FRA), Marios Georgiou (CYP), respectively. The apparatus finalists were also selected based on today’s results, with the top eight qualifiers on each event competing for individual event medals on Sunday, May 25th.
