OU Defeats ASU on Senior Night

The No. 3 ranked Oklahoma Sooners defeated the No. 21 Arizona State Sun Devils in Norman for a highly inspirational senior night performance. Finishing with a 197.450, the Sooners earned their fourth highest team score of the season.

"We used to be the best kept secret in Norman," said OU Head Coach KJ Kindler, "but now I'd like to say that we're one of the best shows in Norman."

The highlight of the night was the Perfect 10 floor exercise routine by sophomore, Haley Scaman, who earned her second 10.0 on this event this season. "My first 10.0 was awesome," said Scaman with a smile, "but [in Norman] the energy was great and it pumped me up and I was just glad I could get a ten for the home crowd." Kindler was impressed by Scaman's home performance and said that she almost expects perfect scores from her at this point.

The 2014 senior class put on a great show for their last home competition in Norman. Senior, Taylor Spears, had her best meet of the season scoring a 9.95 on the uneven bars and a winning score of 9.975 on the balance beam. "It was bittersweet and I'm going to miss the fans so much and seeing my mom right there by the beam with all the parents," stated an emotional Spears, "it's been a really special night though."

Senior, Lara Albright, was thrown a curveball after Brewer's dismissal from the beam line up due to injury. For the first time in her career, Albright was placed in a competition spot on the balance beam. Though she has exhibitioned on this event before, being is a position to score is a whole new ballgame. "There was definitely a little more pressure because I knew that my score was going to count and my team needed me to hit," said Albright after the meet.

Senior, Hayden Ward, who has been out for injury, exhibitioned on bars finishing her career with a solid routine and a stuck double back dismount. Madison Mooring also competed in her last home meet, scoring a 9.8 on vault and a 9.85 on the balance beam.

The Sooners will head to Denton on Sunday to take on TWU, Michigan State, and No. 12 Minnesota in their last regular season competition at 2 p.m in the TWU Kitty Magee Arena.
