The Wolverines are coming off a solid start at the Cancun Classic on Jan. 4, the top-ranked team score in the NCAA (tied for 1st) and with a 2-0, 0-0 Big Ten start to the season. Their first home meet of the 2013 season will be held in Crisler Center on Saturday, Jan. 12 against the reigning Big Ten champion Nebraska (0-0, 0-0 Big Ten). The meet begins at 4 p.m.
Michigan is looking to improve on their preseason ranking of No. 10 before the official release of the Troester/GymInfo Top 25 rankings is released next Monday (Jan. 14). The rankings are determined by season scoring average and are yet to be released, which is due to some NCAA teams not competing yet this season.
Michigan is 17-17-1 all-time against Nebraska, and the two teams have met during the regular season every year since 2003, with Michigan having a 5-4-1 record against the Huskers.
Michigan returns 10 performers from last season's squad while adding four newcomers to the roster for 2013. Among Michigan's top returners is Sampson, a 2013 Big Ten Preseason Gymnast to Watch. Sampson, a two-time NCAA Regional vault champion and an individual qualifier for the 2012 NCAA Championships on vault, ranks among the conference's best vaulters and will contend for All-America honors on the event this season.
