Peng Peng Lee withdraws from Olympic Selection

Top Canadian gymnast and fan favorite Peng Peng Lee announced via Twitter on Friday that she has given up her bid to make the 2012 Olympic Team for Canada, due to a knee injury that she sustained during training at the Canadian Championships.
Lee posted this to her followers:
"Due to my knee I've withdrawn from the Olympic selection process but I'm ecstatic to be named honorary team captain for the 2012 Olympic Games."
Lee's injury occurred while training a double-twisting Yurchenko vault, and is the second time she has suffered an injury attempting that skill (Lee also missed the 2011 Canadian Championships with a dislocated kneecap).
Lee's injury comes in the midst of a tremendously successful season so far in 2012. Lee led the Canadian team at the Pacific Rim Championships, placing third in the all-around and second in the balance beam and floor exercise finals. She also won the uneven bars at the Osijek Grand Prix in late April. Lee has committed to UCLA and plans to begin competing for the Bruins in the 2012-2013 season.
